Which States Concentrate Pickleball Into Larger Locations?

Arizona averages 6.18 listed courts per listed pickleball location, the highest in our 50-state snapshot. New Jersey, Nevada and Utah follow. The metric captures concentration of listed courts, not the physical size or quality of any individual facility.

What courts per location tells us

Two states can have similar court supply but organize it differently. One may have many small parks, recreation centers and clubs; another may concentrate more courts into larger listed venues. Dividing listed courts by listed locations gives a simple measure of that concentration.

It is not a direct measure of commercial facility size. Directory definitions can vary, a “location” can include public or private inventory, and the metric does not tell us whether courts are indoor, dedicated, shared, permanent or temporary.

Why this matters for infrastructure analysis

Per-capita court density answers how much listed supply exists relative to population. Courts per location answers how concentrated that supply is. Used together, the two metrics can distinguish a state with many distributed access points from one where a larger share of inventory sits in multi-court locations.

That becomes more useful over time. If future snapshots show courts per location rising while location count grows slowly, that would suggest expansion is occurring partly through larger sites or expansions of existing sites. We will not infer that trend until a second real snapshot exists.
